Amnesty International confirms that ISIS
has been killing Iraqi minorities

The human rights group Amnesty International released a report last Monday that confirmed speculations that the Islamic State of the Levant (ISIL) has been killing Iraq’s minority population.

Amnesty International cited several sources that detailed how women and children were forced onto the back of trucks, taken to isolated locations, and tortured and killed.

Amnesty International stated that on August 3 and August 15, ISIL kidnapped and killed several men and “children as young as 12” from the Kocho and Qiniyeh villages.

Said told Amnesty International that he “was shot 5 times” but that he and his brother Khaled escaped.

Amnesty International also reported that a man named Salem was able to escape with the help of “a Muslim neighbor,” while another individual, who escaped ISIL, has several relatives who remain missing.

Among some of the groups that Amnesty International listed as being targeted by ISIL are the “Assyrian Christians, Turkmen Shi’a,” and the Yezidis.

Amnesty International report comes as the international community increases its efforts to combat the threat that ISIL poses.

ISIL has taken control of large areas of Syria and Iraq, and has said that its goal is to create an Islamic State that follows the strict interpretation of Islam.

After ISIL killed several Yezidis and forced the others into the Sinjar Mountains, The United Nations (UN) issued a strong response saying that Sec. General Ban ki-Moon was “deeply appalled” by ISIL’s act. The UN Security Council released a statement condemning the acts as “crimes against humanity” and stating that ISIL “must be held accountable” for the atrocities.

The U.S. provided air assistance to the Kurdish and Iraqi security forces, which were able to free the Yezidis from the Sinjar Mountain.

ISIL responded that if the U.S. did not end its air strikes against ISIL’s targets then it will begin killing Americans.

The group held to its promise and beheaded American journalist James Foley.

And last Tuesday, ISIL released another video showing the beheading of American journalist Steven Sotlof.

The Guardian reported that British Prime Minister David Cameron increased the terror alert to severe, and he said that the police will be given broader powers to investigate suspected terror threats.

President Obama has increased the airstrikes in Iraq and ordered an extra 350 military advisers to the country.
